BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. (AP) — Hundreds of law officers fanned out across a Minneapolis suburb Saturday in pursuit of a man who authorities say posed as a police officer and fatally shot a Democratic state lawmaker in her home in what Gov. Tim Walz called “a politically motivated assassination.” Authorities say the same suspect also shot and wounded a second lawmaker.

Law enforcement officials said they were searching for Vance Boelter, 57, in connection with the assassination of one Democratic state legislator in Minnesota and the attempted assassination of another on Saturday.

Boelter is described as a White man who stands 6 feet 1 inches tall, weighs about 220 lbs and has brown hair and brown eyes. He was wearing a light-colored cowboy hat; a dark-colored, long-sleeve collared shirt of coat; light pants and a dark bag.

Authorities have named Vance Boelter, 57, as a suspect in the shootings that killed a top Democrat in the Minnesota House and her husband early Saturday, as well as another shooting that wounded a Democratic state senator and his wife. Authorities said they do not know whether other people were involved. The gunman, who authorities said fled police after a shoot-out, was described in an alert as a White man with brown hair wearing black body armor who “may misrepresent himself as law enforcement.”
