The White House on Saturday backed the proposal to name the forthcoming stadium of the Washington Commanders after Donald Trump, calling the idea “beautiful.”
The planned $3.7 billion venue, set to open in 2030 on the former RFK Stadium site in Washington, D.C., would become one of the rare NFL homes named after an individual rather than a corporate sponsor.
Though no formal negotiations have been disclosed, a senior White House source told the media that Trump has communicated his desire to the team’s ownership.
The team declined to comment, and city officials offered no statement.
With the stadium funding structure involving private and public investment—$2.7 billion from the team and roughly $1.1 billion from the District—approval of the naming would still hinge on the D.C. Council and federal land‑use authorities.
