Van Horn Law Group Pledges $50,000 Renewal to NSU Shepard Broad College of Law

Van Horn Law Group, P.A., a Fort Lauderdale-based bankruptcy law firm, has renewed its support of Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law with a $50,000 commitment to continue the Van Horn Law Group Pro Bono Honor and support related public-interest law initiatives. The new commitment brings the firm’s total support to $100,000. The firm’s founder and managing partner, Chad Van Horn, Esq., is an alumnus of NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law.

The new commitment follows the firm’s original $50,000 commitment, made in 2022 when the honor was established, and will extend the student recognition honor for an additional five years, from July 1, 2027, through June 30, 2032.

The $50,000 commitment includes $25,000 for the Van Horn Law Group Endowed Pro Bono Honor Fund and $25,000 for the fund’s spendable account, supporting the Pro Bono Honor and public-interest law programs at NSU’s Shepard Broad College of Law.

Through the honor, NSU Shepard Broad College of Law recognizes students who complete at least 50 hours of pro bono legal service with the Van Horn Law Group Pro Bono Honor. Since the honor was established, 258 graduates have been recognized, collectively completing 42,414 hours of pro bono service as of September 2026. During the 2025–2026 academic year alone, 61 graduates contributed 11,192 pro bono hours.

“As someone who went to law school at NSU, this means a lot to me personally. Pro bono service is not something that should begin after you’ve established yourself as an attorney. It should be part of how lawyers think about their responsibility to the community from the very beginning,” said Chad Van Horn, Esq., Founder and Managing Partner of Van Horn Law Group. “These students are giving their time and applying their developing legal skills to help people who may otherwise have nowhere to turn. We’re proud to continue supporting NSU and recognizing students who are already demonstrating that kind of commitment to service.”

“Van Horn Law Group’s continued investment in our students reinforces an essential part of legal education, understanding the responsibility lawyers have to use their knowledge and skills in service to others,” said Olympia R. Duhart, J.D., Dean of Nova Southeastern University’s Shepard Broad College of Law. “This generous gift allows us to continue recognizing students who make a meaningful commitment to pro bono service while helping instill values of service, professionalism and community engagement. We hope these are values our students will carry with them throughout their legal careers.”

The gift builds upon Van Horn Law Group’s longstanding commitment to expanding access to legal services and supporting the South Florida community. Under Van Horn’s leadership, the firm has made pro bono representation an important component of its work, providing legal assistance to individuals facing financial hardship who might otherwise be unable to afford representation.

For Van Horn, supporting law students who embrace public service is also an investment in the future of the legal profession.

“Lawyers have the ability to make an enormous difference in someone’s life, particularly when that person is facing a financial or legal crisis,” Van Horn added. “Our hope is that recognizing students for pro bono work reinforces the importance of service and encourages them to carry that commitment with them throughout their careers.”

The Van Horn Law Group Pro Bono Honor provides formal recognition to qualifying students for their service while helping foster a culture of volunteerism and public-interest advocacy within the law school community.
