Washington, D.C. — The U.S. Department of Defense announced plans to construct a new training facility at Mountain Home Air Force Base in Idaho to support the Qatar Emiri Air Force’s F-15 pilots. This move underscores the growing military collaboration between the United States and Qatar.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth revealed the agreement during a meeting with Qatari Defense Minister Sheikh Saoud bin Abdulrahman Al-Thani. The facility will host Qatari F-15 aircraft and personnel, facilitating joint training exercises aimed at enhancing interoperability and combat readiness between the two nations’ air forces. Qatar will finance the construction of the facility, which will remain under U.S. control, with local contractors carrying out the work. This arrangement mirrors similar training agreements the U.S. has with other allied nations, such as Singapore.

The announcement coincides with Qatar’s significant role in mediating peace talks between Israel and Hamas, efforts that have been credited with contributing to a cease-fire agreement. President Donald Trump recently issued a security guarantee to Qatar, further solidifying the strategic partnership between the two countries.

While the facility is expected to bolster military cooperation, it has also drawn criticism from some quarters. Activist Laura Loomer expressed concerns over the arrangement, citing past allegations against Qatar. However, U.S. officials have emphasized that the facility will be fully controlled by the American military.
