Trump Schedules New Putin Summit After “Productive” Call — Zelensky to Visit White House Friday (Video)

U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday confirmed that he and Russian President Vladimir Putin held a “very productive” phone call, during which the two agreed to a face-to-face summit in Budapest in the weeks ahead.

The announcement comes just hours before Trump is set to welcome Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to the White House on Friday, where Kyiv aims to press for long-range U.S. weapons and broader support in its ongoing war with Russia.

In remarks shared after the call, Trump said he would brief Zelensky in person about his conversation with Putin — and floated the possibility of supplying Ukraine with Tomahawk cruise missiles if Russia refuses to engage seriously in diplomacy.

But Putin, via his aides, pushed back on that threat. In the call, Putin reportedly warned that arming Ukraine with long-range missiles would damage U.S.-Russia relations and raise the risks of escalation.

Faith Based Events

Kremlin spokesman Yuri Ushakov confirmed that U.S. Secretary of State Marcos Rubio and Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will meet in coming days to plan the summit framework. Ushakov also affirmed that Budapest was a mutually agreeable location for the forthcoming meeting.

For Kyiv, the Zelensky–Trump meeting is seen as a crucial moment to solidify U.S. backing. Zelensky’s team is expected to press hard for enhanced air defenses, expanded long-range strike capacity, and American intelligence cooperation.

But analysts caution that Trump’s diplomatic overtures to Putin risk undercutting Ukrainian expectations if they yield concessions without firm security guarantees. Some see the Budapest summit as a gambit to cool tensions — or reset negotiating leverage — before concrete decisions are made.

As Ukraine enters another fraught week, both leaders must balance pressure from their domestic supporters with the high-stakes gamble of diplomacy under fire.
