Former President Donald Trump announced he will attend the opening round of the Ryder Cup on Friday, September 26, at Bethpage State Park’s Black Course in New York. Trump, a longtime golf enthusiast, revealed his plans on his social media platform, saying he was invited to the event. In his message, he mistakenly credited the PGA Tour with organizing the Ryder Cup, though it is actually run by the PGA of America. A PGA of America spokesman clarified that both the organization and U.S. captain Keegan Bradley extended the invitation.

The Ryder Cup, already one of golf’s most spirited competitions, is generating extra anticipation this year due to its venue. Bethpage Black, a challenging public course on Long Island, is known for its boisterous, vocal crowds, which are expected to add energy to the U.S.-Europe showdown.

Trump’s appearance underscores his ongoing involvement in professional golf. Earlier this year, he met with PGA Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan and Tiger Woods in an unsuccessful attempt to help bridge the divide between the PGA Tour and the Saudi-funded LIV Golf league. Separately, the PGA Tour recently announced it will return to Trump National Doral in Florida in 2026, marking its first event at one of Trump’s courses in nearly ten years.

Adding intrigue to this year’s Ryder Cup is Bradley himself. The U.S. captain has hinted he may compete as a player, a move that would make him the first captain to do so since Arnold Palmer in 1963.
