On Friday, Donald Trump publicly called for the Department of Justice to open an investigation into the late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein’s dealings with high-profile Democrats, including former President Bill Clinton, former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers, and tech investor and donor Reid Hoffman, as well as financial giant JPMorgan Chase.

In a post on his social-media platform, Trump framed the move as exposing what he called the “Epstein hoax,” asserting that the focus should shift from his own associations to those of his political rivals.

Responding within hours, Attorney General Pam Bondi named U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton in Manhattan to spearhead the inquiry under the direction of the Justice Department.

The directive follows the recent release by the House Oversight Committee of thousands of pages of Epstein-related documents. Among them were emails referencing Trump’s presence on Epstein’s private island and claims attributed to Epstein that Trump “knew about the girls.”

Legal analysts warn the move raises serious concerns about presidential interference in an independent prosecutorial process. One former federal prosecuting attorney called the president’s directive “outrageously inappropriate.”

Though the Justice Department previously concluded in July that no evidence had been uncovered to support charges against unindicted third parties connected to Epstein, Trump’s public request signals a renewed push.

Faith Based Events

At this stage, no formal criminal filings have been announced. Clinton, Summers, Hoffman and JPMorgan have issued statements denying wrongdoing or reiterating previous comments and investigations. The unfolding investigation is likely to deepen scrutiny of both Epstein’s network and the relationship between the White House and law-enforcement oversight.
