Tito Jackson, Member Of The Jackson 5, Dies At 70

Tito Jackson, a singer and guitarist who was an original member of the pop group the Jackson 5, which had major hits with “ABC” and “I’ll Be There,” has died at 70.

His children announced the death on Instagram but did not disclose further information.

Toriano Adaryll Jackson was born in Gary, Ind., on Oct. 15, 1953. He was the third of nine siblings — one of whom died in infancy — whose steelworker father, Joe, recognized the musical gifts of his children.

Tito Jackson began playing guitar around age 10. “It was the blues that got me interested in the guitar,” Mr. Jackson recalled in a 2021 interview with Blues Blast Magazine.

Siblings Jackie, Tito and Jermaine appeared early on at talent shows as the Jackson Brothers. Joe Jackson drove the children relentlessly, sometimes abusively, to sing and dance as a disciplined unit with an eye on their potential stardom.
