New data has revealed that Florida is the 13th state with the most Halloween spirit, sitting in the top 26% of the country.

Data experts at AttractionTickets.com have just ranked all 50 states based on their Halloween enthusiasm, using fresh Google Trends data covering everything from costumes and decor to “Halloween pyjamas” and “Halloween nail art”.

On the whole, as a country, we tend to go all out for Halloween. We decorate early, dress up with full commitment, and extend the fun long past childhood through theme park “scare fests” like Halloween Horror Nights and other adult-friendly events. But where across the country has the most Halloween spirit?

To find out which US states have the most Halloween spirit, data experts at AttractionTickets.com turned to Google Trends. They tracked interest in 10 Halloween-related search terms, from “Halloween costumes” and “Halloween décor” to the ever-popular “Halloween Horror Nights”. Each state was scored out of 100 for every term, and the results were combined to create a “Halloween spirit” score out of 1000. This turned the findings into a state-by-state showdown, revealing which states goes all in on spooky season and which states take a more low-key approach.

Key observations from the data

• West Virginia tops the list with a perfect 100 search interest score in multiple categories including “Halloween decor,” “Halloween costumes”, “couples Halloween costumes”, and strong scores in wreaths and crafts.
• Kentucky and Ohio follow closely, showing particularly high interest in costumes, decorations, and Halloween crafts.
• Florida stands out in the top 25 partly thanks to a perfect 100 score for “Halloween Horror Nights”, reflecting the appeal of major themed events in Orlando.
• Some lower-ranked states still show strength in niche categories, for instance, Wyoming hits high in “Halloween costumes” but scores very low elsewhere.
• States with lower overall scores often had minimal interest in Halloween wreaths, nail designs, or seasonal pajamas.
