Chocolate bars pulled from shelves earlier this month were categorized as Class II recalls by the Food and Drug Administration, the agency announced Tuesday.
Tony’s Chocolonely, Inc. voluntarily recalled select lots of two different flavors of chocolate bars—Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything Bar—on April 1, after receiving reports of small stones in the products.
The FDA and Tony’s Chocolonely, Inc. urged customers not to eat the recalled chocolate bars, and instead suggested they return them to the store or throw them away.
Chocolate Bars Involved in the Recall
The recall impacts seven batches of two Tony’s Chocolonely brand chocolate bars: Dark Almond Sea Salt and Everything Bar (milk chocolate with caramel, pretzel, almond nougat, and sea salt).
The affected products were sold across the U.S. starting in February in retail stores and online via the Tony’s Chocolonely website.

Why the Chocolate Bars Were Recalled
According to the recall notice, the chocolate bars may contain small stones, which were not filtered out during third-party almond harvesting and processing.
The recall was initiated after 12 customers reported rocks in the chocolate bars. Tony’s Chocolonely said the reports occurred outside of North America, and no injuries have been reported to date.
On April 15, the recalled chocolate bars were given a Class II recall classification by the FDA, indicating that the chocolate bars “may cause temporary or medically reversible health consequences,” but that the risk of “serious adverse health consequences is remote.”
Steps to Take If You Have Recalled Chocolate Bars
Tony’s Chocolonely said the chances of being harmed from a chocolate bar are low, but the company is still urging customers to get rid of the products.
If you have the recalled chocolate bars, return them to the store for a refund or replacement, or throw them away.
