Texas AG Sues Tylenol Makers Over Alleged Autism Risk

The state of Texas has filed a groundbreaking lawsuit against Johnson & Johnson and its spin-off firm Kenvue, alleging that they knowingly concealed evidence linking their over-the-counter pain-relief product Tylenol (active ingredient acetaminophen) to neurodevelopmental disorders such as autism and ADHD in children born to users during pregnancy.

According to the complaint, the companies marketed Tylenol as “safe for pregnant women” while failing to update labels or warn consumers about accumulating scientific findings suggesting elevated risks for prenatal acetaminophen exposure.  The suit also accuses Johnson & Johnson of transferring liability to Kenvue in an alleged attempt to evade legal responsibility.

While the lawsuit references multiple epidemiological studies that suggest associations, leading medical organisations maintain that no causal link has been definitively established.  Kenvue defended Tylenol’s safety record, calling the claims “baseless” and pledging to vigorously defend itself.

The action marks the first time a U.S. state government has sued over pregnancy-use of acetaminophen in relation to autism risk, elevating the debate beyond individual litigation into a major public-health and regulatory fight.
