Saturday features mostly sunny skies alternating with some stormy periods, especially in the afternoon and early evening.  Heavy rain is possible in spots.  Expect an increasing risk of dangerous rip currents at the Atlantic beaches this weekend.  Highs on Saturday will be in the low 90s — but it will feel at least 10 degrees hotter, so stay hydrated and out of the sun.

Sunday will bring a mix of hot sun and storms, especially in the afternoon and evening.  Heavy rain is possible.  Sunday’s highs will be mostly in the steamy mid-90s on the mainland and in the low 90s in the Keys.

Monday will feature some sun and more clouds and storms in the East Coast metro area and the Keys, while the Gulf Coast will see a mix of hot sun and periods of storms.  Monday’s highs will be in the low 90s on the mainland and near 90 degrees in the Keys.

Tuesday will be partly sunny with periods of showers and storms.  Tuesday’s highs will be in the low 90s.

Wednesday’s forecast calls for a mix of sun, showers, and storms.  Highs on Wednesday will be in the low 90s on the mainland and near 90 degrees in the Keys.

It’s quiet in the tropical Atlantic.

Donna Thomas has studied hurricanes for two decades. She holds a PhD in history when her experience with Hurricane Andrew ultimately led her to earn a degree in broadcast meteorology from Mississippi State University. Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
