Showers and storms are in South Florida’s forecast on Friday, and we’re watching the tropics for some very heavy rain in the near future. After a warm and muggy start on Friday, some showers and afternoon storms, especially inland, will develop. Friday’s highs will be near 90 degrees.
Saturday will be hot and humid with more widespread afternoon storms developing on a humid day with highs in the upper 80s.
Sunday will bring more showers and storms, including heavy rain starting in the evening, as a tropical disturbance moves into the southern Gulf of Mexico. Sunday’s highs will be in the upper 80s.
We’re watching to see if the tropical disturbance develops as it tracks toward Florida, but in any event, Monday and Tuesday will be stormy in South Florida, with periods of heavy rain and possible localized flooding — and wet weather is likely to linger well into the workweek.
In the tropics, that disturbance we’re watching has a medium chance of developing into a tropical depression, according to the National Hurricane Center.
Elsewhere, a regenerated Tropical Depression Bonnie is starting to move out to sea. At 5 am on Thursday, Bonnie was located near 35.8 North, 73.3 West, and was moving east-northeast at 8 miles per hour. Bonnie’s top winds were 35 miles per hour.
