Organic Milk Is Said To Be One Of The Fastest-Growing Industries In The World Market

National Food Day falls on October 24 each year. This day, celebrated for the first time in 1975, was created by the Center for Science and Public Interest (CSPI) and was supposed to be similar to Earth Day.

The day toasts nutritious and healthy food and focuses on educating people on healthy eating, good farming methods, and safe food production. It also reminds us of the strides we’ve made in living more healthy lives and growing food in viable, responsible ways.

  • 1500 BC – The earliest recorded bread made with yeast is in Ancient Egypt, though it is likely that fermentation was used in bread much earlier than this.
  • 1921 – White Castle, America’s first fast food chain, opens in Wichita, Kansas and serves burgers made on an assembly line.
  • 1971 – The Center for Science in the Public Interest (CSPI) is formed by Michael F. Jacobson and a few chemists and scientists.
  • 1975 – The CSPI publishes a White Paper on Infant Feeding Practices, criticizing the commercialization of the infant food industry’s products.
  • 1975 – National Food Day is created by the CSPI to raise awareness about nutrition and food safety.
  • 1989 – The CSPI convinces restaurants to stop using animal fat for frying and leads a campaign against trans-fats in fast foods.
  • 2015 – On National Food Day of 2015, students are encouraged to participate by posting a picture of themselves biting into an apple, with the hashtag #FoodDay2015.
  • There are 321 food days to celebrate over the calendar year, with National Food Day celebrated on October 24. The other days focus on specific foodstuffs, with National Spaghetti Day kicking the year off on January 4, Pie Day occurring on December 1 and Hamburger Day on May 28.
  • Crops that are grown organically are shown to contain 30% fewer nitrates, which causes nitrate leaching into the water table to be 40% less.
  • Genetically Modified Organisms (G.M.O.’s) are prohibited in organic foods.
  • Organic milk is said to be one of the fastest-growing industries in the world market.
  • CSPI played a major role in bringing up the matter of high amounts of saturated fats found in popcorn in cinemas. It was also the organization that led the campaigns against trans fats found in fast foods.
  • One large goal of the CSPI was to make sustainable, healthy food available to anyone, and they have gone about advocating for this and raising awareness in a variety of ways. This includes legislation for more informed labeling, removal of certain dangerous trans-fats, advocacy for better school lunches and much more.
  • Food provides cultures and individuals with identity, comfort, status, pleasure and belonging and, for some, it is more important than geography or even language.
  • It typically takes 6-8 hours to digest food from eating to its arrival in the small intestine. From here, it is another 36 hours or so until the food moves through the entire colon.
  • You’ve probably heard of ‘empty calories.’ You’ll find them in soda, chips, fruit drinks, and pizza. These calories provide energy but lack the vitamins and minerals you need for peak performance.
  • The typical American eats too much sugar, sodium, refined grains, saturated fat, and solid fat (like beef or pork fat), according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
  • All foods provide nutrients and calories. Healthy eating is all about the ratio of nutrients to calories. The more nutrients to calories you eat, the healthier your diet.
  • There are more than twice as many fast-food restaurants now as there were in the ‘70s.
