By Donna Thomas, SouthFloridaReporter.com Meteorologist, Oct. 3, 2015 – South Florida will enjoy mostly dry and pleasant autumn-like weather this weekend. Just a stray quick shower is possible on Saturday, with the day marked by sun, clouds, low humidity, and highs in the mid to upper 80s.
Sunday will be pleasant as well, with just a chance of a quick shower, sun and clouds, and highs in the upper 80s. The downside this weekend and early next week will be caused by swell from now northeastward-moving Hurricane Joaquin — a high risk of dangerous rip currents, some minor coastal flooding in low-lying areas, and high seas. The first part of our workweek will see a few showers and highs in the upper 80s.
Hurricane Joaquin is finally moving away from the central Bahamas, and conditions will begin to improve on Saturday. At 5 am, Joaquin was located near 25.2 North, 73.1 West, and was moving northeast at 13 miles per hour. Maximum sustained winds were 125 miles per hour, and Joaquin will begin to weaken, slowly at first and then more rapidly as it picks up forward speed in cooler waters. While Joaquin will pass well east of the U.S. east coast, Bermuda is under a hurricane watch and tropical storm warning.
Elsewhere in the tropics, the low about 850 miles east-southeast of Bermuda has a medium chance of developing into a tropical or subtropical depression before it interacts with Joaquin. And a wave a few hundred miles southwest of the Cape Verde Islands has a low chance of developing over the next 5 days as it moves west-northwestward.
