June Lockhart, the cherished actress known for her roles as the nurturing mothers Ruth Martin in Lassie and Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space, has died at the age of 100. She passed away peacefully on October 23, 2025, at her home in Santa Monica, California, surrounded by her daughter June Elizabeth and granddaughter Christianna Triolo.
Lockhart’s career spanned nearly nine decades, beginning in the 1930s with a film debut in A Christmas Carol. She gained prominence in the 1950s and 1960s on television, becoming a household name with her portrayal of Ruth Martin in Lassie (1958–1964) and Maureen Robinson in Lost in Space (1965–1968). Her performances earned her two Emmy nominations and a Tony Award in 1948 for her Broadway role in For Love or Money.
Beyond her acting, Lockhart was an advocate for space exploration, receiving NASA’s Exceptional Public Achievement Medal in 2014 for inspiring public interest in science. She also maintained an active interest in current events, regularly reading major newspapers until her passing.
