Florida Gas Prices Jumped 12 Cents Since Last Week

Florida gas prices are declining again after abruptly rising 12 cents early last week. The state average went from $2.84 per gallon on Monday, up to $2.96/g on Wednesday. By Sunday, the state average was back down to $2.92 per gallon, which is:

  • 6.5 cents more than a week ago
  • 5 cents less than last month
  • 21 cents less than this time last year

“Florida gas prices continue fluctuating on a weekly basis,” said Mark Jenkins, spokesman for AAA – The Auto Club Group. “Last week, the state average rebounded after dropping 13 cents in 9 days. Fortunately, pump prices remain on the low end of what drivers have paid this year.”

So far this year, the state average has bounced between $2.84 and $3.23 per gallon. The autumn fuel-demand dip, global oil oversupply, and switch to winter-blend gasoline have contributed to the discount at the pump. The U.S. price of crude settled at $60.09/b on Friday. That’s $7 per barrel less than this time last year.

  1. Combine errands to limit driving time.
  2. Drive conservatively. Avoid aggressive acceleration and speeding, which reduces fuel economy.
  3. Remove excess weight in your vehicle. Every 100 pounds taken out of the vehicle improves fuel economy by 1-2 percent.
  4. Shop around for the best gas prices in your community by using the AAA mobile app.
  5. Pay with cash. Some retailers charge more per gallon for customers who pay with a credit card.
