By Erin Brodwin, Business Insider, For SouthFloridaReporter.com, Nov. 12, 2015 – The Food and Drug Administration just announced that Americans should eat and drink no more than 50 grams of sugar — the amount in a single can of Coke — each day.
As part of the new recommendations, reported by The New York Times, the FDA also wants to change nutrition labels to differentiate between two kinds of sugar in food and drinks:
- That which is naturally occurring (like the kind in a super-sweet peach or honey-crisp apple)
- That which is added in the production process (like the corn syrup added to soda, sports drinks, and many cereals)
Soda companies are less than pleased.
