Hurricane Erin is moving west-northwest early on Sunday, and its outer bands are lashing the Virgin Islands and the north coast of Puerto Rico.
At 5 am Sunday, Erin was located about 155 miles north of San Juan, Puerto Rico and 310 miles east of Grand Turk Islands. Maximum sustained winds were 125 miles per hour, but while Erin has weakened since Saturday, it remains a powerful and dangerous hurricane. At that time, Erin was moving west-northwest at 14 miles per hour, and we’re anticipating a turn to the northwest later on Sunday.
There’s a tropical storm warning for the Turks and Caicos Islands and a tropical storm watch for the southeastern Bahamas.
