Recalled Bodum Brazil French Press (CPSC)

Bodum USA, in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC), has announced a recall of approximately 5.9 million French press coffee makers. The affected products feature replaceable glass carafes across multiple popular lines, including the Bistro, Brazil, Caffettiera, Chambord, Crema, Java, Jesper, and Kenya models in 8-cup and 12-cup sizes.

According to safety regulators, the glass carafes can unexpectedly crack, shatter, or break during use if they have suffered prior damage. A primary culprit identified in the recall is the use of metal spoons or utensils to stir coffee inside the glass container, which can compromise the structural integrity of the glass. When unexpected breakage occurs while handling boiling liquid, it poses an immediate hazard of lacerations and severe burn injuries.

At the time of the recall announcement, Bodum USA had received 70 reports of carafes breaking during use, resulting in 48 documented burn injuries to consumers. The impacted coffee makers were sold nationwide at major retailers—including Target, Walmart, and Amazon—as well as specialized home goods stores and online platforms from 1974 through October 2026, retailing for between $15 and $65.

Consumers who own one of the affected French presses are instructed to immediately stop using metal utensils to stir their coffee and to carefully inspect their carafes for any cracks or chips. Rather than issuing full product refunds, Bodum is providing a safety remedy kit to concerned owners. Affected customers can contact the company to receive a free replacement plastic stirring spoon alongside a dedicated warning label emphasizing safe handling guidelines. Owners can reach Bodum USA toll-free at 888-879-8213 or visit their online recall portal for more information.
