At least four people were killed and several others injured at a Michigan church Sunday after a man allegedly rammed a truck into the building where worshipers were gathered for a packed service and then opened fire, according to authorities.

Thomas Jacob Sanford, 40, of the nearby city of Burton, was identified by police as the only suspect in the attack on the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints building in Grand Blanc Township.

Grand Blanc Township Police Chief William Renye said 10 gunshot victims were sent to hospitals, two of whom later died. Two more victims were found in the debris Sunday night of the fire that began during the attack and engulfed the church. More victims could be found as authorities search through the rubble from the fire, Renye said during a news conference Sunday night, adding that the entire church had not yet been cleared.

Police “neutralized” the suspect within eight minutes in the back parking lot of the church, Renye said. The FBI is leading the investigation. Reuben Coleman, acting special agent in charge of the FBI Detroit Field Office, said the FBI is investigating the incident “as an act of targeted violence.”
