
With one exception, House Democrats rejected the continuing resolution, known as a CR, due to their opposition to cuts to government spending pushed by Trump and billionaire adviser Elon Musk through his U.S. DOGE Service.
The victory for House Republicans was not an easy one. The fractious conference has been unable to overcome internal ideological differences and agree to fund the government on party-line votes for years, forcing GOP leaders to rely on Democrats under President Joe Biden. But Trump’s influence — and a strong-arm lobbying campaign from the White House — made the difference for many conservatives to finally fall in line.
