President Donald Trump is shaking up his inner circle after a tough week at the ballot box. On Friday afternoon, the president announced that Stephen Miller will become the new White House chief of staff. Miller officially takes over the top West Wing post on Monday, November 9. He replaces Susie Wiles, who is leaving her historic role as the first female chief of staff.

The major staffing shift comes just days after Republicans lost control of both chambers of Congress. Despite the disappointing midterm results, Trump had warm words for his departing top aide. He praised Wiles on Truth Social and noted that she had done an outstanding job. Wiles is not leaving the Trump orbit completely. Instead, she will transition back to the president’s political operation.

Wiles released her own gracious statement shortly after the announcement hit social media. She called her time in the West Wing the honor of a lifetime. She pointed to major wins on border security, tax cuts, and the broader economy. Wiles also survived a public battle with breast cancer earlier this year. She leaves as the longest-serving chief of staff across either of Trump’s presidential terms.

Replacing her is Miller, a longtime loyalist and current deputy chief of staff. Miller is widely known as the main architect behind the administration’s strict immigration and deportation policies. Elevating him signals that Trump plans to double down on his core agenda over the next two years. Even with a newly elected Democratic Congress, the White House is clearly preparing for a fight.

Faith Based Events

Shortly after dropping the staffing news, Trump walked out to meet reporters before departing for Florida. The president is heading south to speak at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center for the UP Summit. He will also attend the inaugural MAX POWER Aerospace Expo during his sunshine state visit. Before boarding, Trump fielded pressing questions from the media about both the West Wing shakeup and foreign policy.

At the top of the foreign policy list is the ongoing conflict with Iran. With the midterm elections finally behind him, Trump stated he will soon make a major decision on Tehran. He met with his national security team on Wednesday and Thursday to weigh resuming military strikes. Meanwhile, Iran recently passed a nuclear proposal to Washington through mediators in Qatar. Trump also spoke directly with Qatar’s emir about ways to de-escalate regional tensions while keeping military options open.
