If Santa didn’t bring you that bomb-sniffing robot or dump truck you really wanted for Christmas, now is your chance to get one at a good price.
The Orange County surplus items online auction is underway to resell vehicles and an assortment of random items no longer needed by Public Works, Utilities, Parks and Recreation and other county departments.
All the proceeds from the auction, which ends Feb. 4, go back into the Orange County coffers.
Since the Orange County Comptroller’s Office first started auctioning items in 2018, it has raised $8.6 million, which officials celebrated as a big victory for taxpayers.
Regular people, business leaders, dealers and farmers from the Everglades or even those across the country bid and buy everything ranging from monster-sized items down to small things for your backyard.
Currently available are big tractors, tractor trucks, dump trucks and a stump grinder, or your classic beater cars, such as a 2005 Ford Taurus. If you don’t have room for a dump truck in your driveway, more low-key items such as a conference table, pool chairs, an ice machine or a sewing machine are available. And yes, don’t forget that robot, which can navigate stairs and remove suspicious items with its arm.
The last auction in August 2025 raised about $943,000.
“We are especially grateful to our regular supporters who return year after year to place their bids — their continued commitment plays a vital role in making this event such a success for Orange County,” Orange County Comptroller Phil Diamond said in a statement this week. “And, more importantly, as Orange County’s independently elected financial watchdog, over $943,000 will go to Orange County and benefit Orange County taxpayers.”
The comptroller’s office warns all items are for sale “as is” and winners must pick up their items.
