On Tuesday, U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance touched down in Israel to bolster the fragile cease-fire between Hamas and Israel, and to meet with Israeli leadership including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He described the early progress as “better than I expected,” though he added the hard work is far from over.

Vance’s visit comes at a delicate moment: recent flare-ups and delays in returning hostage remains have raised concerns that the truce could unravel. He stressed patience is key, saying the return of all hostages “is not going to happen overnight.”

While Vance reiterated that the U.S. will not deploy ground troops in Gaza, he affirmed America’s commitment to “useful coordination” behind the scenes.

In short: Vance’s visit signals that the U.S. is deeply engaged in maintaining peace and monitoring the next steps while reminding both sides — Israel and Hamas — that the eyes of the world are watching. The hope is that with this show of support, the truce will hold and pave the way for more stable diplomacy ahead.
