The Department of Defense has announced the creation of Joint Interagency Task Force 401 (JIATF 401), a new organization designed to spearhead the development of counter-drone capabilities.
This new task force will replace the existing Joint Counter-small Unmanned Aircraft Systems Office (JCO), which is being disbanded to streamline efforts and accelerate the delivery of solutions to warfighters.
Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth emphasized that JIATF 401 will have expanded authorities and consolidated resources to outpace the rapidly evolving threat posed by hostile drones, both overseas and domestically. The initiative aims to enhance the mobility and affordability of counter-UAS systems while integrating them more effectively into military formations, ensuring the protection of American airspace and personnel.
