A recent recall of hundreds of frozen waffle products has been expanded to include products from Trader Joe’s, Whole Foods Market, Kroger, Wegmans, and more, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) announced on Wednesday.
The recalled frozen toaster waffles, Belgian waffles, and pancakes could potentially be contaminated with Listeria, the FDA said.
TreeHouse Foods, a snacking and beverage manufacturer, voluntarily recalled nearly 700 frozen waffle products last Friday, and after additional testing, the company is now expanding its recall to include all products manufactured at one facility that is still within their shelf-life.
The initial recall included frozen waffle products from brands such as Good & Gather, Simple Truth, and Kodiak Cakes, and additional products from these brands have been added under the recall expansion.
All the recalled products were distributed across the U.S. and Canada and have best-by dates ranging from October 2024 to March 2026.
The FDA advises consumers to check their freezers and throw out any recalled products or return the frozen waffles or pancakes to where they were purchased.
There haven’t been any confirmed reports of illness linked to the affected products, the FDA said.1 However, if you think you might have consumed one of the potentially contaminated products, the FDA recommends monitoring for symptoms of a Listeria infection—especially pregnant people, young kids, older adults, and people with weakened immune systems, who could experience more severe cases.
Common symptoms of Listeria infection, or listeriosis, include diarrhea, fever, vomiting, headache, and muscle pains, and are normally felt within 24 hours and last up to three days. The FDA recommends contacting a healthcare provider if you are concerned about Listeria infection.
It’s not yet clear how the frozen waffles and pancakes came to contaminated with Listeria.
