“American couples are saying goodbye to traditional US venues in favor of sun, sand, and unforgettable adventures abroad,” says Claudia Postigo, founder of The Planner Co., a wedding planner agency that specializes in helping couples get married in Spain.
Here, Claudia reveals which locations are stealing the spotlight as must-have spots for tying the knot abroad. From crystal-clear waters to jaw-dropping landscapes, we’re diving into the hottest destination wedding picks for American couples in 2025.

Why These Are Such Amazing Destinations
Mexico is a hotspot for American couples planning destination weddings, with an impressive 11,420 searches. Whether it’s the turquoise waters of Cancun, the bohemian vibes of Tulum, or the luxurious resorts in Los Cabos, couples are spoiled for choice.
“Many couples are drawn to Mexico for how relatively easy it is to travel there compared to other international destinations,” says Claudia. “There’s also a variety of all-inclusive wedding packages that take care of everything from the ceremony to the fiesta afterward. And let’s not forget the incredible local food—tacos and margaritas at your wedding. Yes, please!”
Jamaica is another top pick for American couples, with 10,390 searches. “Couples love Jamaica for its beauty, but also for how easy it is to plan a wedding here—many resorts offer comprehensive wedding packages that include everything you need,” says Claudia. “The country’s natural beauty, with waterfalls, beaches, and lush tropical settings, provides a magical backdrop for unforgettable wedding photos.”
Plus, Jamaica is relatively close for US travelers, making it a convenient choice for couples who want an international wedding without a long-haul flight.
With 8490 searches for Italian destination weddings, it’s clear this country continues to capture the imagination of lovebirds across the US. From the rolling hills of Tuscany to the glittering Amalfi Coast and the romance of Venice, Italy has options for every couple.
“Couples are drawn to Italy for its rich history, mouth-watering cuisine, and stunning views,” says Claudia. “Popular wedding packages offer everything from vineyard celebrations to lakeside ceremonies.”
Greece continues to steal the hearts of American couples, with 3910 searches. “It’s no surprise, really,” Claudia says. “Who can resist the allure of white-washed villages, crystal-clear waters, and golden sunsets over the Aegean?”
Whether it’s the iconic cliffs of Santorini, the party fun of Mykonos, or the rustic charm of Crete, Greece offers stunning backdrops at every turn. With plenty of affordable wedding packages featuring beachside ceremonies and boutique venues, Greece perfectly balances romance, adventure, and affordability.
Spain might have a smaller search volume at 32050, but that doesn’t make it any less appealing for destination weddings. With lively cities like Seville and Barcelona as well as a rich cultural scene, Spain also has a plethora of beautiful landscapes, from its famous southern beaches to gorgeous northern mountain escapes.
“There’s a huge variety of venues in Spain,” says Claudia. “You could have a coastal escape, a historic city setting, or a rustic countryside villa. Add in the incredible food and wine, and it’s easy to see why Spain remains a favorite.”
Claudia Postigo, founder of The Planner Co., commented:
“Planning a destination wedding requires a bit of extra thought and organization. First things first, give yourself plenty of time to research venues, vendors, and legal requirements.
“It’s also important to consider the weather. Remember that summer months can be scorching in many of these destinations, which might make suits and a big dress (or even just being outside) unbearable. It’s often worth looking at off-peak months as you’ll get better deals.
“I also suggest working with a local wedding planner. Having someone on the ground who knows the area and can help with logistics is invaluable. They’ll know the best vendors and can handle any language barriers.
“And don’t forget your guests! Destination weddings can be tricky for friends and family to attend, so send out invites early, provide lots of travel info, and think about how you can make the whole experience a mini-vacation for everyone. Plan a few group activities to get everyone together, like a welcome dinner or a post-wedding brunch.”
