LOS ANGELES, CA – December 15, 2025 – The entertainment world is reeling following the shocking and tragic death of legendary director, actor, and political activist Rob Reiner, 78, and his wife, photographer Michele Singer Reiner, 68. The couple was found dead inside their Brentwood, Los Angeles, home on Sunday afternoon in what authorities are investigating as an apparent homicide.

Police were dispatched to the Reiners’ residence in the 200 block of South Chadbourne Avenue shortly after 3:30 p.m. local time following a call for medical aid. Paramedics from the Los Angeles Fire Department were the first to arrive, where they discovered the two deceased individuals. The Los Angeles Police Department’s Robbery Homicide Division (RHD) has taken over the investigation, leading a probe into the circumstances of the deaths. While official identification was pending from the Los Angeles County coroner’s office, law enforcement sources confirmed to multiple media outlets that the victims were Rob and Michele Reiner.

Initial reports from sources briefed on the investigation suggest the couple sustained stab wounds. In a devastating turn of events, sources have also indicated that the couple’s son, Nick Reiner, is under suspicion and being questioned by investigators. These reports have not yet been confirmed by the LAPD, which has declined to release further specifics regarding a motive, the method of death, or whether a suspect has been detained. An LAPD official described the case as an ongoing “death investigation” and confirmed that police are executing a search warrant at the property.

The Reiner family released a statement expressing profound sorrow: β€œIt is with profound sorrow that we announce the tragic passing of Michele and Rob Reiner,” the family spokesperson said. β€œWe are heartbroken by this sudden loss, and we ask for privacy during this unbelievably difficult time.”

Faith Based Events

Rob Reiner, the son of comedy icon Carl Reiner, carved out a profoundly influential career spanning over five decades. He first achieved widespread fame as the liberal, often-combative son-in-law Michael “Meathead” Stivic on the groundbreaking 1970s sitcom All in the Family, a role that earned him two Emmy Awards.

Transitioning masterfully behind the camera, Reiner directed an extraordinary run of critically acclaimed and enduringly popular films. His directorial debut, the 1984 mockumentary This Is Spinal Tap, became a cult classic and arguably pioneered the genre. This was followed by classics that spanned genres, including the coming-of-age drama Stand By Me (1986), the fantasy-adventure The Princess Bride (1987), the quintessential romantic comedy When Harry Met Sally… (1989), the chilling psychological thriller Misery (1990), and the courtroom drama A Few Good Men (1992). In 1987, he co-founded Castle Rock Entertainment, a company responsible for numerous hit films and the television series Seinfeld.

Beyond his contributions to film and television, Reiner was a dedicated and vocal progressive activist. He co-founded the American Foundation for Equal Rights, which led the successful legal challenge against California’s Proposition 8 banning same-sex marriage. He was also a leading figure in early childhood development advocacy, helping to create the landmark First 5 California initiative funded by a tobacco tax.

Michele Singer Reiner, a respected photographer, had been married to Rob since 1989. The couple’s deaths, in the affluent Brentwood neighborhood, have sent shockwaves across Hollywood and the nation. Tributes have poured in from fellow actors, directors, and political figures, all mourning the loss of a powerhouse creative talent and a dedicated champion for social causes. Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass called the deaths a “devastating loss for the city.”

The LAPD’s RHD continues its investigation, promising a thorough examination into the devastating circumstances that led to the end of the couple’s remarkable lives.
