Top Reasons Why Toronto Should Be Your Next Travel Destination

Reasons That Will Convince You to Travel to Toronto (and Even Stay for Good)

Toronto may seem like a third of Canada’s major cities. It doesn’t have the je ne sais quoi as Montréal and the same flair as Vancouver. But the 2015 Pan American Games certainly put the city in the spotlight as one of the best destinations in the Great White North.

As a matter of fact, British Airways ranked Toronto as one of the 19 must-see travel destinations for 2019. The list includes travel destinations for everyone, from the tropical romantic beaches and nature reserves of Seychelles, the hearty street food and the vibrant port city of Osaka, meticulously designed mosques and palaces of Marrakesh, the bright lights and never-ending fun in Las Vegas, and gorgeous rivers, and botanical gardens of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

Interestingly, Toronto is the only Canadian city on the list. British Airways described it as the biggest city in Canada with fantastic art and culture, sight-seeing spots, food, and nightlife.

Still looking for more reasons to include the city on your travel plans?

Indulge in Toronto’s Food Festivals

Toronto has many food festivals throughout the year, many of which are in the summer – the perfect weather to enjoy delectable choices from food trucks, hence the ‘Food Truck Festival’ where all of the country’s best food trucks participate.

Make sure you save some room for the world-famous Canadian national dish – poutine.

There are so many food festivals happening year-round in Toronto. Some of the most highly anticipated ones include:

  • Toronto Rum Festival – a showcase of the best rums from the Caribbean.
  • Taste of India – includes music and dance performances.
  • Feast of St. Lawrence – multiple food stalls to choose from with live performances at the famous St. Lawrence market.

Enjoy the Sun at the Sunnyside Waterfront

This lakefront district in the city includes a beautiful beach and a park all throughout the Humber Bay of Lake Ontario. On its west side is the Exhibition Place, a public-owned mixed-use district that features banquet centers, exhibits, monuments, music buildings, a theatre, sports facilities, parkland, etc.

The Sunnyside area stretches 3 kilometers long (1.9 miles) of lakeshore and has tons of activities and facilities to offer, such as picnic areas, playgrounds, sports clubs, rowing clubs, and more.

There are many eateries and cafes on the strip where you can grab a drink or dine while admiring the gorgeous view and enjoy the sun.

At night, you can party and dance with great music at the Sunnyside Pavilion. If you don’t know, it’s one of the best spots for summer night parties in the city, thanks to the rustic Romanesque fortress.

Check out the Music Festival

Speaking of parties, Toronto hosts the annual VELD music festival – an electronic dance and hip-hop music festival that draws thousands of crowd. Some of the festival’s notable acts include the names of Steve Aoki, Martin Garrix, Tiesto, Hardwell, and Armin van Buuren.

Lounge on the Beach

As a coastal city, Toronto has many beaches to offer. You can spend your day in any of them and top up your tan. One of the best beaches is Woodbine Beach, a great spot for beach volleyball and people-watching. If you’re into water sports, head up to Cherry Beach and try surfing and waterboarding. There are many great barbecue options along the way, too.

Legoland for the Whole Family

Toronto is a great family destination, and one of its family-friendly offerings is the world-famous Legoland. Here, you will find a miniature version of southern Ontario made entirely of Lego bricks, from the Air Canada Center that features a Maple Leafs game to the Niagara Falls. This 3D man-made model is made up of more than 1.5 million bricks.

This place is best for families, especially with smaller kids. Parents can watch their children let loose in the Lego Construction Zone. Kids can also learn how Lego bricks are made in their factory tour.

Try Axe Throwing

Whether you call it a sport or a hipster fad, one thing is for sure–throwing an ax to a wooden target in shooting-range style, is one of the most fun Canadian things to do in Toronto. Come at night and see a casual crowd of mostly twenties training, watching, and having a good time.

Sample Wines at the Wine Country

This may surprise you, but Toronto is also a wine country. It only takes an hour’s ride to get from the city to the Niagara Peninsula. Spend a whole day and sample some of the best wines in the area. The local cuisine is also a must-try, and there is a great selection of eateries and restaurants to choose from. Also, the wine country is just a few minutes away from the world-famous Niagara Falls. Many visitors take a quick trip to the gorgeous waterfall before heading back to the city. It’s absolutely a must-see in Toronto.
