Top national security officials are set to testify before a Senate committee on Wednesday morning in a session likely to touch on a range of high-profile topics, from the continuing investigations into Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 election to President Donald Trump’s abrupt firing of FBI Director James Comey.
Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats, Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, National Security Agency Director Michael Rogers and Federal Bureau of Investigation Acting Director Andrew McCabe are scheduled to appear before the Senate Intelligence Committee.
The hearing sets the stage for a much-anticipated appearance by Mr. Comey before the same committee a day later. It also comes as the committee is deep into an investigation into Russia’s alleged interference in the presidential election and any potential contacts between those efforts and Mr. Trump’s campaign.
This will be Mr. Rosenstein’s first public appearance before Congress after playing a role in Mr. Comey’s firing, though he appeared in closed-door sessions last month.
