Florida Starts Sunny, East Coast Storms Later Today

Monday features mostly sunny skies along the Gulf coast, but the east coast metro area will see storms develop during the afternoon.  Some of those storms could be strong, with dangerous lightning, damaging winds, and heavy rain leading to localized flooding.  Highs on Monday will be in the upper 80s along the Gulf coast and the sticky low 90s in the east coast metro area.

Tuesday will bring sun, clouds, and some afternoon showers and storms on a building breeze.  Strong storms are possible, as is localized flooding.  Tuesday’s highs will be in the mid 80s.

Wednesday will see additional showers and storms, but we’ll see periods of sun as well.  Wednesday’s highs will be in the mid 80s.

Look for more sun on Thursday, along with afternoon showers and storms.  Thursday’s highs will be in the mid 80s.

Friday will feature good sun with periods of showers and storms in the afternoon.  Highs on Friday will be in the upper 80s.

Tropical Storm Arthur is bringing heavy rain to eastern North Carolina.  At 5 am Monday, Arthur was located near 33.5 North, 76.6 West, about 85 south of Morehead City.  Arthur was moving north-northeast at 14 mph and had maximum sustained winds of 45 mph.  Arthur could strengthen slightly before moving out to sea and dissipating by late in the week.

Donna spent 15 years at WFOR-TV (CBS4 in Miami-Fort Lauderdale), where she worked as a weather producer with hurricane experts Bryan Norcross and David Bernard. She also produced hurricane specials and weather-related features and news coverage, as well as serving as pool TV producer at the National Hurricane Center during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. Donna also served as a researcher on NOAA's Atlantic Hurricane Database Reanalysis Project. Donna specializes in Florida's hurricane history.
