How Paula Kenon is Making Life Sweeter for Breast Cancer Fighters

The diagnosis came four years ago during a regular checkup.

Today, Paula Kenon is cancer-free and making life a little sweeter for women with breast cancer. She is doing just that with her annual bake sales at the Broward Sheriff’s Office’s Public Safety Building. Over the last three years, Paula’s bake sales have raised more than $10,000 for American Cancer Society’s Making Strides campaign.

Paula, a case filing specialist in the Criminal Investigations Division, is quick to credit her bake-sale success to her family and co-workers. Some of the more popular treats are prepared by her colleagues, including the banana pudding, banana bread and pink lemonade cakes. “I also have food, like fruit and 90-calorie treats, for the people who are on a fitness kick,” Paula said. The one-day bake sale coincides with Breast Cancer Awareness Month in October.

Paula has visions of doing more to help women who are fighting cancer. “I had a great support system to get me through the illness. My ultimate goal is to have a foundation that helps women get the emotional and physical support they need to battle cancer. We’d get them to and from their doctor appointments, get them a cleaning crew, pair them with a nutritionist and sit with them during their chemotherapy.”
