Execs From Scandalized Broward Health Vie For Palm Beach Health District CEO

Palm Beach Health Care District

As many as three executives with ties to the corruption-plagued Broward Health public hospital system are vying for the job of CEO of the Health Care District of Palm Beach County.

The president of Broward Health, Dr. Nabil El Sanadi, recently committed suicide, sparking in its wake a state and, reportedly, an FBI investigation. The Broward system had to pay the federal government nearly $70 million in 2015 to settle a whistleblower’s complaint alleging kickbacks with its doctors.

Broward Health is the brand name for the North Broward Health Care District and, like its counterpart in Palm Beach County, runs hospitals and provides health care to the poor and disabled among other services. The organizations get $150 million each from taxpayers, and the districts levy taxes countywide.

Courting CEO candidates from Broward Health appears like an odd choice for the Health Care District coming off a tumultuous year in which the board forced the resignation of CEO Ron Wiewora, suffered through numerous audits and had to fight off the Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office for control of its Trauma Hawk Aero-Medical service
