Jordan Zimmerman receiving an honorary degree of Doctorate of Business Administration (Jordan Zimmerman)

Last Friday, Jordan Zimmerman gave the commencement speech at Nova Southeastern University to the graduates of NSU’s College of Engineering and Computing, Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography, and H. Wayne Huizenga College of Business and Entrepreneurship.

Zimmerman is best known for his success building a multi-billion dollar advertising agency. Beyond just being an accomplished figure in business, he is also known for his significant philanthropic contributions, especially in the education sector.

The message of his inspiring speech was “Don’t give up your dreams.” He encouraged the graduates to not only dream big but to work harder than anyone else to make those dreams come true, giving them real advice on how to achieve life and career goals.

He shared stories of hardship turned into success, such as going from losing a $40MM account to building a $4 billion advertising empire. He also shared the sacrifices he had to make to achieve his own dreams, like sleeping on his parents’ sleeper-sofa for years while he was investing every dollar he had in building his business.

While Mr. Zimmerman seemed to surprise the graduates with his personal tales, it was Zimmerman himself who had the biggest surprise of all, as the Board of Trustees of the University presented him with an honorary degree of Doctorate of Business Administration.

George L. Hanbury II, Ph.D., President and CEO of Nova Southeastern University said, “Jordan taught our graduate students the most valuable lesson of all – that success doesn’t discriminate between who you are or where you come from, it just finds people who are not afraid to be brave and boldly work until they find it.” Dr. Hanbury always encourages his students to “seek their passion, not their fortune.”

Mr. Zimmerman, Founder and Chairman of Zimmerman Advertising added, “I could not have been more surprised or more touched by this honor. My mom always wanted me to be a doctor!”
