Habitat for Humanity of Broward has appointed George Barbar to its Board of Directors.

A Senior Managing Director at Mesirow Financial, Barbar has been a long-time volunteer with Habitat.

“I began volunteering for Habitat when I was in high school for community service hours and after seeing the joy it brought the families I was hooked,” said Barbar. “A highlight of my time volunteering with Habitat has been the South Florida Bond Traders Association Work Days.”

In his new Board of Directors role, Barbar, who received his BA in Business/Economics from Wheaton College and his Master of Business Administration from Florida Atlantic University, wants to continue making a difference in people’s lives.

“I am honored to be able to serve the community through Habitat Broward, while bringing people together to build homes and build hope,” said the Boca Raton resident. “It is a privilege to help play a small role in improving the lives of children and families in our community.”

“We’re ecstatic that George has joined our Board,” said Nancy Robin, Habitat Broward’s Executive Director & CEO. “George is a terrific leader and will help us follow our mission, which is to put God’s love into action by bringing people together to build homes, communities and hope.”

About Habitat for Humanity of Broward

Seeking to put God’s love into action, Habitat for Humanity of Broward brings people together to build homes, communities and hope. Habitat Broward offers a “hand up” not a “hand out” to low to very low-income families who are unable to qualify for conventional financing but are willing to work hard to improve their family’s lives. Key initiatives include empowering partner families through education, resources and support to successfully achieve their personal, academic and professional goals; teaching the youth of future homeowner families the skills and attitudes needed to make better life choices and break the intergenerational cycle of poverty; increasing awareness and educating the community regarding issues related to the affordable housing crisis and what they can do to help; pursuing green building certification for Habitat Broward homes in order to make our design more sustainable and eco-friendly; as well as revitalizing and strengthening the community by building affordable homes throughout Broward County.
